The Pre- Raphaelites are at Tate Britain now. The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood AKA The PRB were kind of like the Beastie Boys of 19th century art: William Holman Hunt, John Everett Millais & last but not least Dante Gabriel Rossett (image above is Rossetti’s Lady Lilith, d’oh not this Lilith!) They were a tight knit bunch of cool pioneers & anti establishment (hence the Beastie Boys comparison) Rather than follow art trends of the time did their own thing & were inspired by the Renaissance. Their women are drop dead gorgeous & sometimes were painted dead & gorgeous. I wouldn’t be suprised after this exhibition if next season we see a lot of fashion shows & shoots inspired by this. Pale redheads to reference are: Karen Elson, Codie Young, Florence Welch, Lily Cole, Christina Hendricks and my personal favourite: Sissy Spacek. If this is not your natural look but you wish to attempt it I say invest in some red hair dye & mega SPF sun protection try to walk about looking fragile & practise fainting. Go see this, take your ipod & listen to this enjoy the harpsichord interlude. See? Unexpected.
