A stylist friend brought this to my attention yesterday and I am compelled to share it with you. Here are some of the images from the Synchronised Swimming at this years Olympics. This was the sporting event with the most glamour from the beauty to the custom swimwear. Naturally I am utterly obsessed with the makeup. The reason that it is so heavy is much the same as theatrical or ballet makeup being that it is designed and applied with the purpose of being noticed from a distance for effect on far seated audience members. I however love it from closeup photos even with the nose clips that distort the face. It is so surreal, child like in it’s cheerful & naive fascinating beauty, appealing to my warped mind that craves new images and inspiration all the time. I particularly love the makeup of the Russian team mates Svetlana Romashina and Natalia Ishchenko with their heavy drawn on lashes that echo the faces with big lashes on their swimsuits. It reminds me of a crude version of Liza Minnelli in Cabaret. I think that this makeup would not be out of place on a Meadham Kirchhoff catwalk. Anyone looking for waterproof makeup I suggest Makeup Forever who do a large and complete range as seen here. I know exactly how I want to look next Summer on the beach or maybe next week at my local swimming pool, well maybe not in reality but in my head at least.
