Much has been said about the Kardashian contouring that’s been going on and the endless You Tube tutorials that have followed. Yes you can do it with three different shades of foundation ranging from the lightest (your highlighter) mid tone (your colour) and darkest (your contour) but the result is often an eerie mannequin face that more resembles Malibu Barbie than great bone structure. I prefer to contour with a decent contouring cream and a glowing highlighter with just your regular base. Apply your foundation as usual then take a contour cream and buff just under your cheekbones up towards, but not including, your temples. You can also contour above the temples and under the jawline just be sure to blend, blend, blend. Some of my favourite contour creams for this are Tom Ford Shade & Illuminate, MAC Contour Cream in Coffee Walnut and &OtherStories Face Contour Cream. You can also contour with a powder but this can be more difficult to blend if you don’t quite get it right, at the moment I love the Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Bronzing Powder which has a light to dark finish so you can build up the colour. Then for the highlight, buff your highlighter into tops of cheekbones, bridge of nose & cupids bow. For creams I love RMS Living Luminizer, MAC Strobe Cream, NARS The Multiple in St Barts or Luxor, Topshop Glow Stick in Play Up and MAKE Skin Illuminator. For those who prefer powder try Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder in Highlight, Tom Ford Illuminating Powder or Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder.
