This post stemmed from me seeing Hackers on Netflix and basically loving all those cool gals that were obsessed with the net back in the day & just to clarify I don’t actually mean Sandra Bullock in The Net. Back to Hackers apart from the amazing wardrobe, soundtrack and lets face it all of Angelina’s makeup/hair looks and her cool as energy, did I mention the soundtrack? Ok lets forget that this cult film is spectacularly shit but lets give it an 8 on visual merit alone as it makes you either nostalgic or long to have been apart of that genre. For shoots & projects recently I have been looking for my inspiration & doing research from these kind of tough cyber space chicks that were in to cyber/fetish/alternative clothes & lifestyle but were basically looking at it all through a Windows 95 screen and then kind of adapting & making my own 2014 version. I also just found out about an art movement called Post Internet which I am totally obsessed with. If you wanna know more read all about it here. For me this mood has been in the air since last season for example at the Antipodium show, where I was key make up artist, was called Times New Roman and was basically a mash up of classicism and early computer graphics. Then last week I went to James Lavelle’s Meltdown which basically was like one massive flash back and there were some amazing 90’s vibes. So some of the things that if you want to embrace this back to the future trend in time for festival season and holidays here are some of the products that I would suggest. Invest in a primer try Laura Mercier Primer or Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch to keep your skin mega matte because you can add the shine elements. If you need a matte base try the Estee Lauder Double Wear Light or NARS Sheer Matte Foundation. I think that you have to have some silver Shu Uemura Eyelash Curlers as anything machine like is the perfect accessory to your makeup bag. I like the idea of a silver shadow I really love the silver/gold or bronze creams from Illamasqua and I also really love either a nude matte brown lip liner with lip balm think MAC Lip Pencil in Spice to be really authentic or try Kevyn Aucoin Flesh Tone Lip Pencil in Medium. Black girls or any girls with dark skin tones have to go and get Cork or Chestnut Lip Pencil from MAC. As an alternative you should really consider a frosted lipstick. I can’t even tell you how much I am in to this, at the moment in particular the Lipstick Queen Metals Collection. I also really like the frosted lip balms that you can buy like Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer and especially the gimmicky ones that you know have no good ingredients in them and smell like fake french fries or fizzy pop and come in Manga like packaging. They are perfect for this look. If you find a lip balm that is also a cool key chain then Bingo you hit jackpot. I also love the new limited edition Dior 3 Couleurs Smoky which are perfect to pull out of a handbag as they look super sic fi and open out ingeniously. Be fast as these will also disappear quickly as they are only available for limited periods (cue evil laugh) so you’ll have to buy them off makeup dealers on eBay! Mwah ha ha ha!!! Lashes are important for this look think part 60’s Twiggy, part Bambi and part Japanese Anime so treat yourself to a new mascara like TopShop Doe Eyed Lashes or get some lash extensions if you can be bothered to lie down for an hour or more and listen to a beauty therapist moaning that Googlebox is now over. This is also a good look to try out a graphic liquid liner. Go for slick black pen like Chanel Automatic Liquid Liner try a metallic option such as Eyeko Liquid Metal Liner in Rose Gold. If you don’t have a steady enough hand for liquid liner why not try a coloured pencil and create a line or a shape you like near or on the eye, Model’s Own Kohl Pencils come in mega bright neon shades. Lastly nails are a big part of this look. If you do nail art try a Circuit Board as a pattern. Or try the techno route and go for UV or day glow. Personally I am going to work those off colours and perhaps go for Ikea Blue or Easy Everything Orange.
