I’m a big fan of glitter. Always have been, always will be but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s a bloody nightmare to work with and you risk looking like you’ve just returned from a five year old’s birthday party if you don’t get it right. So given that it’s one of the most sparkliest times of the year at Christmas I thought I’d go over some of the products which can give you some shine whilst not requiring you to give ID to prove you really are over thirteen years old. For the best fool proof glitter application you need to avoid loose glitter, try something like Urban Decay Heavy Metal Liner which has the glitter suspended in a clear liquid base so you don’t have any fall out. For a subtle glitter look try just adding a tiny amount to the chentry of your eyelid on the lash line just above your pupil to give a highlight or be bold and create a 50’s style flick in glitter. This liner is super easy to use and control. If liquid is still a bit out of your comfort zone though try a glitter pencil such as Models Own Glitter Eye Pencil which has a more waxy base. Use it to line eyes or all over the eyelid, just be aware it may crease with wear but then that’s not always a bad thing. If you’re confident to use a pressed eyeshadow then try Diorshow Fusion Mono Eyeshadow or Chanel Illusion D’Ombre Eyeshadow which both have very fine glitter particles to give a subtle shimmering affect. For better control use your finger to press onto the eyelid and build up the colour. If you want something with more impact then look to Bobbi Brown’s Sparkle Eyeshadow or Marc Jacobs Tonite Lights Glitter Dust for serious sparkle. I love a metallic lipstick however glitter lipstick can sometimes be pretty uncomfortable, try a gloss with glitter particles such as Givenchy Gelee D’Interdit Smoothing Gloss Crystal Shine. Vibrant Fuschia gives great colour and glitter or use shades such as Sparkling Petal over your regular lipstick for a sparkly finish. If all this glitter on your face is getting too much for you stick it to your nails. I love the Deborah Lippmann glitter range for colour & sparkle and also Formula X do an amazing ombre glitter for a 3D effect. Of course you can always hark back to your teenage years and stick to good old Barry M, it will never let you down. Top tip for taking glitter off, soak cotton pads in your nail polish remover and place them over your nails before wrapping with tin foil and leaving them to soak for about 10 minutes. It will peel off easily. Finally for the mega skilled among you try the MAC Reflects range of loose glitters. Use a tiny bit of eyelash glue such as Duo dabbed over your eyelid to give the glitter something to adhere to before applying. And make sure you do this before any other makeup application. Picking off glitter particles individually is never fun. Now go and party my little disco ball.
