There are many times that I have been known to wear mens’ clothing. That perfect soft, slouchy jumper or a certain cut of a tailored shirt, worn in grey tshirts that just aren’t the same if you’re shopping in the women’s department. There’s a reason that the word ‘boyfriend’ is used for more than just a term for your significant other, it holds that descriptive quality of something nonchalantly thrown on that fits just so and tells everyone you’re loved up even if you are happily single. So it’s no surprise that some of my beauty products are also borrowed from a male counterpart. The thing about male beauty products is that (save a 14 year old’s Lynx bodyspray) they are often more scent neutral or fresher so you don’t have to pick around floral or sickly sweet fragrances to get the product you want. And they also tend to get to the point a bit quicker. Bulldog’s Skincare is pretty simple but works well, try the Protective Moisturiser which has SPF15 and comes cruelty free as standard. Kiehls & Korres are also both worth checking out in the mens’ department. The Kiehls Eye Alert contains caffeine to fight fatigue and packs a punch a bit more than the women’s counterpart & for those of you who are blemish prone try the Blue Astringent Herbal Lotion for when you breakout. Male skin often tends to be more oily so if you have a tendency to get shine try using Korres Borage SPF6 Anti Shine Moisturiser & if you still need an extra barrier then Givenchy’s Mister Mat will be your best friend. A primer that leaves you with zero shine but looks natural and lets your skin breathe a bit. When it comes to hair the only thing I’d really say is if you like it slick, you got to use Brylcreem. Whether its a short do that looks super sharp or longer hair channeling a wet look feel, this stuff is tried and tested and really, really works. Finally where I think stealing from the boys really works is fragrance. If you like things quite woody, musky or something with a citrus note then men’s fragrances are definitely work trying. Try layering a men’s fragrance over your regular scent, head to your nearest beauty counter and pick up testers to try out. I love Byredo’s Gypsy Water or Tom Ford Grey Vetiver.
