The top 4 images are from Vogue Italia story called Decorate Your Hat by photographers Luciana Val and Franco Musso, who I adore working with. The stylist: Mari David models are Barbara Palvin& Anya Kazakova. This was such a fun shoot to research and I spent hours looking at you guessed it, golden age Hollywood images and especially those of Dietrich, Garbo, Crawford photographed by the master himself Mr George Hurrell (bottom 4 images). I am know for being super fast but not on this shoot. It was a lot of makeup and it took a lot of time. For some images brows were bleached and eyebrows drawn in elsewhere and higher, faces were taped, lip lines changed and extreme shading & highlighting. The facial proportions were totally changed. I was like a possessed makeup Dr Frankenstein on a mission to create my perfect Hollywoodesque character! This really was a makeup transformation. So what kind of tips can I give you or secrets to share? Click on dark black writing for products link in new window. Start with primer and foundation and then use a highlight cream and loose powder worked in to a velvet powder puff have some pale shimmer fluid and powder to highlight and what you gotta do is layer a bit like a mille feuille cake. So liquid and creams and powder puff (pat & push & stipple and you know my favourite: smush it in!) and then add cream highlights and then pat again with puff and repeat about 3 times. This look works in studio with strong lighting and makeup is dramatic, cinematic and always very beautiful! Brow pencils are going to be your best friend and draw strong purposeful lines. Lastly a perfect luscious red matte lip and highlight the cupids bow on the top lip with a little of the shimmer cream or powder. Grab your hat, all set. Are you ready for your closeup?
