This is a fashion story called Escape From Paris that I had the pleasure to work on for the Purple magazine issue 18. This was photographed and styled by the rather amazing Camille Bidault-Waddington & the model is new face Vanessa Axente. We did escape from Paris for the day in a fashion bus & we shot this on the outskirts in Alfortville which is a busy residential area with a strange mix of sprawling urban modern mass housing, office blocks & shopping centres with mock tudor private houses, the extreme & varied contrast of architecture is interesting & a little bizarre. I created a very minimal makeup keeping it clean with the odd romantic or graphic element to work with the clothes & our environment, using just skin care by Jurlique, minimal base by Laura Mercier. I added elements of tobacco coloured cream colour on the eye or odd pops of blue in areas such as eye lid, under the eye or in the brow. I used nude paintpots by MAC and cream pigment by Illamasqua with blue eyeshadow & pencils by Shu Uemura . The overall makeup mood is minimal yet makes a romantic & subtle statement. The images in the shoot remind me of a modern urban Cathy from Emily Bronte’s classic novel Wuthering Heights. I strongly recommend you see this film interpretation by the brilliant Andrea Arnold.
