Big Blue is my latest beauty story for Vogue China July 13 shot by Hans Feurer, Styled by Heathermary Jackson, Hair by Ward with the gorgeous model Xiao Wen Ju. Legendary Beauty Director and guru Kathy Phillips at Vogue gave
us ‘Blue’ as the theme so we decided to keep the makeup cool, young, bright and fun with the odd conceptual element. My references were everything from films such as Blade Runner, Liquid Sky & The Blue Lagoon. I also was very inspired by the simple cool images of Jamie Morgan, Ray Petri & Mitzi Lorenz a gang and style known as Buffalo as seen in early shoots for The Face magazine. We shot this on a deserted beach in Miami and used the blue elements of water and sky as our back drop and I used all MAC products. I wanted to work with products that are quick and easy to use and also wouldn’t budge in the humid heat or move from the water that an assistant was pouring  again and again over our patient, fun loving model from a watering can. I used MAC Chromaline in Hi Def Cyan with an art shop paint brush to create a graphic line across the face from ear to ear and over the bridge of the nose. You could also use Makeup Forever’s brilliant Waterproof Aqua Cream in Turquoise to create a mask across the entire face again using an art shop brush that is cheap and doesn’t matter if it gets stained. Illamasqua Intense Lipgloss in Gender would be another option for the perfect blue lip. On the skin I used no base as the model had flawless skin but I also felt it would feel more modern and minimal and contrast against the splashes of blue makeup so I just used the MAC Mineralize Charged Water skincare range, you could also use Crème de la Mer The Reparative Body Sun Lotion SPF 30 and on the face Chanel UV Essentiel Protective UV Care Anti Pollution SPF 50. Finally you could try  Waterproof Luxurious Mascara by YSL in Majorelle Blue for that defined electric blue lash.
