The starting point for this look was Peter Lindbergh’s images of Linda Evangelista from the 90s. It’s a play on androgyny but a very glamorous one. It’s supermodel strong but done in a modern way, with a femme fatale attitude. Do the eyes first. You’re going to get a lot of eyeshadow fall-out so it just makes things easier. I’m calling this the smouldery eye rather than a smokey eye. It’s dark but I’m using browns as well as black and working with cream textures so it’s tough, dirty and messed up. I started with a brown cream on the lid, and then a darker shadow through the socket, a black eye pencil in the waterline and then lots and lots of mascara on top and bottom lashes. In this look your best tools are your fingers. It’s not done in a precise way. Make it easy, smudging, smooshing, adding and layering. Stick to your eye shape but elongate it slightly by smudging it out at the side. I went for a strong graphic Linda inspired brow. Starting with our model Stephanie’s natural shape, the brows were brushed through, spiked up and defined with a brow pen. Although it’s strong it isn’t a masculine straight brow but more of a feminine arched shape. I contoured under the cheekbones to give a little bit of definition because you do need some colour, but no blush. I then used baby oil as a highlighter and I used it with a brush to give a wet sheen on the top of the cheekbones. It had to be a nude skin. When you’re working with something like a baby oil, or an all over gloss you really want the skin to be as fresh and as natural as possible because too much foundation will move underneath. Oil will keep the skin glossy and gleaming but of course you can substitute the oil for an illuminating product in real life if it’s too heavy. I didn’t put anything on the lip except for a tiny bit of gloss pressed onto the centre of the mouth. It didn’t need any colour and to keep it tough we went for a black glossy short nail
