This is an image from one of my favourite shoots that I worked on for Vogue Italia (top 2 images). It was shot by Phil Poynter & styled by Giovanna Battaglia. The beauty concept was loosely 60’s girl bands & I researched The Supremes, The Ronettes & The Flirtations (bottom 3 images). I looked at lots of images, clips & I played the music loud. I wanted to reference the 60’s in the makeup with the focus on the eyes with colour, shade & definition on the eye: greys, silvers & black. I also used strip lashes for a fluttery effect. I worked with lots of sheer cream products on the skin so that it looked glossy & fresh. I tried very hard to keep a modern feeling to the makeup and have some 60’s elements but not a retro mood . Here are some new products that I suggest: I love the Nars cream eyeshadows try Lili Marlene. I also adore Benefit’s Watt’s Up for that lit from within look, YSL Faux Cils Mascara & the Laura Mercier Lip Glace which come in loads of shades, try Bare Naked. I also love MAC mineralize skin finish compact powder for a highlight. Although this story was with black models all the products that I have talked about would work on all skin tones. The only specific products for black skin that I used were the foundation. I really like Armani Luminous Silk Foundation as it comes in so many shades & I have to tell you about the Bobbi Brown Concealer Palette which I am obsessed with & is a must have in my kit as it works on every single skin tone. I leave you with a quote that I agree with from the formidable Ms Diana Ross “You can’t just sit there and wait for people to give you that golden dream. You’ve got to get out there and make it happen for yourself.” Ooh I love a Diva.
