The inspiration came from the iconic 1969 Naomi Sims’ cover of Life magazine. I was blown away by her looking jaw-droppingly gorgeous with this beautiful nude make-up and it feels still fresh and relevant. The makeup isn’t specifically for one ethnicity or skin tone, it is just really glossy and gorgeous. I wanted to try this look on Tiara, to show a really expensive, pulled-together luxe look. It’s the new nude using modern products and the new textures that are available to us. Most women would like to look like this and it works from day to understated chic night time too. Tiara has really amazing bone structure. I used just one product for her base all over, but then I played around with contouring. This look was about using natural highlights and not a theatrical level of contouring, I’m not into shading noses or creating super fake contours. There was shine on the face but it wasn’t obvious shimmer. The highlights were really controlled where I took the obvious shine out of skin and then put in luminosity using products such as the Daniel Sandler Watercolour blush and the NARS Multiple. I wanted shine on the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose, above and on the lip using a product which was a glossy lipstick rather than an actual gloss. To do a nude make-up takes a lot longer with a lot more product than you’d realise. It’s clever make-up artistry techniques to create beautifully sculpted eyes, using matte brown shadows. I shaded a smouldering blown-out smoky eye on the lid and then smudged it in with black on the waterline. The eyebrows really frame the face so I built up the brow with pencil and then brushed it in. They’re not too thin or overly angular but give strength and architecture to the face. Tiara’s lips are naturally quite pink so I used a nude brown lip pencil shading in a soft outline first and then used my fingers to dab the Shiseido lipstick into the centre of the lip. Chisato painted the nails a golden glossy brown to complement Tiara’s skintone. This look can be adapted by adjusting the shades and intensity and it would look beautiful on anyone.
