Everyone always asks me about my brushes, which are my favourite, how do I use them etc… and the truth is I approach my brushes much like I approach products, if it works it works regardless of what it was designed for. Sometimes yes it pays to go expensive but other times you can head to your local art shop and find exactly what you’re looking for. So lets start from the top. When I’m applying base using a brush I like something that can really push product into skin without absorbing it completely, a dual fibre large brush such as MAC 187SH Duo Fibre Face Brush or Laura Mercier’s Finishing Brush gives great coverage, I also love Bobbi Brown’s Full Coverage Face Brush for its densely packed bristles. If it’s a heavy base that needs some working I like to use a buffing brush such as Chanel Les Beiges Retractable Kabuki Brush, it reminds me of a man’s shaving brush but is super soft and gives a flawless finish. For contouring I often use a cream product and therefore like something flat and dense, recently it’s been MAC 130 Short Duo Fibre Brush or the Premium Defining Brush I picked up recently in Charles Fox. If its more of a cream blush or bronzing I like something fluffier such as Suqqu Cheek Brush or Kevyn Aucoin The Blush Brush. For powder application I like a large brush which comes to a point so I can come in at all angles, I love NARS Yachiyo Kabuki Brush. Working around the eyes I really can use anything depending on the effect I want however there are some I return to time and time again. MAC 224 Tapered Blending Brush or Chantecaille Perfect Sweep are both great for all over blending and for detail I go in with a pencil brush such as Bobbi Brown Eye Smudge Brush or Smashbox Definer Brush and an angled brush such as NARS Angled Eyeliner Brush. For a liquid liner I like to use a fine detail artist brush as it gives a great amount of control, for a secret liner close to the lash line a small flat brush also works well such as Laura Mercier Flat Eye Liner. Finally lip brushes come in many shapes and sizes, I like one with a slight angle on it, try Crown C323 Lip Liner Brush which helps create a beautiful shape.
