Ok so I’m not talking about sweeping your house here, I’m talking about the million dollar question; what really is the best product for cleaning your makeup brushes? I have tried so many over the years and although everyone has their opinion on this (wet vs. dry, solid v.s liquid, organic vs. chemical etc) there are some that I have come to rely on. First off I tend to approach it in two different ways, whether it’s a quick clean on set because I want to use my favourite brush for everything (always the way) or whether my brushes have taken a bit of a pounding and need some TLC. For the quick round I find a spray which evaporates quickly works the best at removing product & sanitising, always in my kit is Make Up Forever’s Instant Brush Cleaner which is gentle on my brushes. Alternatively if I’ve been using something particularly stubborn I need a spray with alcohol, Parian Spirit is tough but contains citrus oils so more gentle than IPA and smells a lot nicer as well. Whenever I am able to I like to shampoo my brushes with a natural shampoo such as John Masters Organics, I love the Bare Unscented Shampoo. A lot of my brushes are natural fibres so it only make sense to treat them as I would my own hair. Once rinsed clean I blot them with tissue, re-form and allow them to air dry naturally. If not then I like the Japonesque Solid Brush Cleaner especially for any specialist sponges as well, it’s also good to travel with. Finally I came across this great little tool recently the Bom Beauty Brush & Sponge Cleaner which has little ridges which get right into brushes and sponges when cleaning without damaging them so everything comes out squeaky clean.
